How this calculator works

Gross profit is revenue minus the direct cost of the goods or services sold. Net profit takes operating expenses off as well: rent, salaries, software, marketing. Each is also shown as a percentage of revenue, which is the margin. If you enter a tax rate, it is applied to a positive net profit to show what remains after tax.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as cost of goods?+

Costs that rise directly with sales: materials, purchased stock, subcontractors, payment fees. Fixed running costs go under operating expenses.

Should revenue include VAT?+

No. Use amounts excluding VAT, since VAT is collected for the tax office and is not income.

Is the tax calculation official?+

No. It applies one flat percentage to net profit for a quick estimate. Real profit tax depends on local rules and allowable deductions.
